The Monsters
2020 | 12 years old
the monsters have their masks
and boy, they stick to task
they whisper into other’s ears a spell
that i’m the monster hiding in a shell
they pretend that they are me
they pretend that i am them
that’s what gives them power
to pretend that they transcend
i try and try to warn my friends
but all they see in front of them
is the very monster that haunts me
the spell cannot be broken
i’m trapped in a room with a lock but no key
i wonder what the monsters will do today
i look at them from across the room
do they know that they’re my doom
they walk past me with vicious eyes
but i’m the only who can see through their disguise
they feign a bubbly laugh and a sweet smile
i stay silent with all the strength that i can compile
when the monsters come the boys turn red
little do they know they’re the ones under their beds
when the monsters come the girls welcome them
they’re fooled by what’s in front of them
