I painted this work as a gift to my mother. My whole life, she has graced me with stories about her childhood home in Moorestown, New Jersey. At six-years-old, my mother and a few of her siblings moved to the United States from the Philippines. They moved in with her aunt and uncle to New Jersey, where she spent much of her childhood. Growing up, I would hear countless stories of this home that would keep me glued to my mother’s words. Some silly, some bittersweet, and many that backed her belief that the house was haunted. My mother loved the town of Moorestown and often looked back at photos of the house to see if her old wallpaper and furniture were still there. I painted this for her as a love letter to her childhood, her old home, and the great stories she would tell me.
