Animal Pinch Pot
“Red Eared Slider Turtle” | 2023
Clay Pot, 2.5 inches tall, 3 inches wide
My animal pinch pot is meant to be a red-eared slider turtle flipped on its back. Attached to the pot are the head and front legs on the front, and the tail and back legs on the back. I carved the red-eared slider shell pattern onto the outside of the pot. I used organic lines to carve the pattern, as the pattern itself includes them. I used shape in my work by shaping the pot - it is rounded and open, with the rim around less than half an inch thick. The head curves inward, then outward, then inward again. Eyes are attached to both sides close to the end. The legs have a rounded triangle shape, with the tail similar but thinner. The pot itself and its attachments represent the three-dimensional shapes of the work. The colors I will use will represent the colors of the actual animal. The dominant color will be a darker green, with yellow layered in the background and red on the ears. The texture is used from the texture of the clay itself and from the depth in the carved lines.
